Charter Day

Sunday, March 8 | 10am-4pm

Enjoy FREE ADMISSION to Eckley Miners’ Village on Sunday, March 8, as we observe Charter Day: the anniversary of William Penn’s original charter for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Join us for two heritage talks – Traditional Folk Ballads and Stories of the Anthracite Coal Region, and Pieces of Your Past, a special presentation on memory and placemaking.  Depending on the weather, we will also offer guided tours of the village.

In the morning, renowned musician, Dave Matsinko, will give an interactive, music-filled, special presentation on traditional folk ballads and stories of the coal region. Then, after you’ve explored the village, stop back in with author, Melanie Akren-Dickson, as she dives into memory and placemaking. Dickson’s ancestors date back to before Eckley was established, and through letters written from the Civil War battlefield to a loved one back at Eckley, Dickson dives into the lifeways of the village’s residents.
