Energize Eckley: Bobby Karimi, "What Lies Beneath: Geophysical Investigations of Minelands"

Geophysical surveys allow us to map underground features from mineral deposits to mine shafts without ever leaving the surface. Join Dr. Bobby Karimi to learn how geologists calibrate geophysical sensors and generate data that has changed how 21st century mine engineers, archaeologists, architects, and others think about the vast world underfoot.

Dr. Karimi is a Geophysicist and Associate Professor in the Biology & Earth Systems Sciences department at Wilkes University. His primary teaching and research interests include Tectonics, Structural Geology, Geophysics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Remote Sensing (RS). Dr. Karimi believes in a non-traditional classroom environment where people are encouraged to explore science, and he strongly believes in the power of real-world and field experiences to drive motivation for learning.

Energize Eckley is a speaker series bringing today's preeminent scholars to Eckley Miners' Village to rethink the anthracite region's past, present, and future. Ticket sales support the design of Eckley's planned interdisciplinary research, learning & discovery center.
