Denis Mercier 8/9/72 Ralph Ellis

Most on tape, these notes were made before taping started.

Bill Sowers of Upper Lehigh used to live in Bruno Lagonosky’s house, and if he is still healthy and articulate, he should be able to provide much information on Eckley, the hotel, and construction and building details of the lower end of town.

Ralph’s grandfather Ellis and grandfather Hauser were both lokie runners. Their main run was between Drifton and Eckley. One day grandfather Ellis was running the train and grandfather Hauser slipped off and got run over, losing his leg. Neither man spoke to one another again.

Professor Stofan of MMI was probably sent through college by the Coxes.

The administration of the Coxe estate has changed hands. A good person to contact about Sophie Coxe is Reverend Fayer at the Episcopal church rectory on Front street in Freeland. He is a historian and a town councilman, has much power and influence, and could be a great help in unravelling the mystery of the deposition of the Sophia Coxe funds.

A Mrs. Breckenridge at the Coxe homestead in Drifton is another person to check with.
