Energize Eckley: Jennifer Baka, “Anthracite Heritage Immersion: A VR Tour of Eckley Miners’ Village”

Modern surface mining is all around us, but safety restriction limit public access and understanding of today's anthracite industry. Dr. Jennifer Baka will present a new virtual-reality tour of Eckley Miners' Village and nearby minelands developed in partnership with Eckley and Penn State's Center for Immersive Experiences. Guests at this program will be the first to experience this cutting-edge exhibit before it is introduced to the general public.

Dr. Baka is an Associate Professor of Geography at Penn State. She researches how energy development impacts communities. She is originally from Lackawanna county and is the granddaughter of coal miners.

Energize Eckley is a speaker series bringing today's preeminent scholars to Eckley Miners' Village to rethink the anthracite region's past, present, and future. Ticket sales support the design of Eckley's planned interdisciplinary research, learning & discovery center.
