Eckley Miners’ Village Museum offers a unique learning experience for visiting youths grades K-12. College and Adult groups are also welcome and can find pricing on our Group Tours page. As a preserved anthracite coal mining village, it is a historic site that gives children the opportunity to see what home life was like for immigrant mining families beginning as early as 1854. For information on lesson plans that will enhance your learning experience at Eckley Miners’ Village, please visit the Lesson Plans page. Please call 570-636-2070 for reservations or additional information.
School Tours (Grades K-12)
School Tours are offered throughout the year, but at least three weeks’ notice must be given prior to the intended tour date (please note that reservations are on a first- come, first serve basis). Approximately 25-30 students can be accommodated per tour guide. Larger groups will be split to give the students the best experience possible. A school tour is flexible, and the Education Coordinator will work with the school’s representative to design a tour for the children.
Below is a list of the current offerings at Eckley:
Introductory Video (approx. 20 minutes)
Museum Scavenger Hunt (approx. 25 minutes)
Village Tour (approx. 1 hour)
Hands-On Activity (approx. 25 minutes)
Gift Shop Visit
The times listed in parenthesis are per 25-30 visitors. Larger groups will need more overall visit time to comfortably complete each activity.
The buildings you see on your guided tour can be selected during your planning process with the educator. An outdoor lunch area is also provided for those who would like to bring packed lunches to the site.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of any scheduled tour, allowing time for check-in and the organization of students. Tours can be scheduled by calling the museum at 570-636-2070 or e-mailing the Education Coordinator at email@example.com.
“The Traveling Trunk”
This program is designed for groups who are unable to visit. To learn more about how to get a trunk to visit your classroom, visit The Traveling Trunk Page or call the museum at 570-636-2070 today.
